The First 2 Months of School

There is a book by Harry Wong titled "The First Days of School". It gives lot of ideas for teachers on how to successfully start the school year. Even though I read this book to prepare myself, my school year still started off a little shakey. I was transferred to a new school only a week before school started. I had never taught in my own classroom before, and I made no preparations over the summer for third grade because I knew that a transfer was possible.

So, August 4th I showed up at my original school for a meeting then three hours later I was unpacking all my classroom stuff at a new school. That was a very difficult day for me physically and emotionally as you can imagine. Luckily I had supportive parents, new fellow employees, principal, and husband and with their help I was able to pull off the image of being prepared in time for Back to School Night. That just might be the reason why it has taken me two months of teaching to feel like I finally have my head above the water. Well, sort of.
